The Pro Print Power 50 recognises personal and professional achievements of print professionals. It considers their approach to craftsmanship, use of technology, lobbying, business strategy and overall leadership. It also considers individuals who have broken new ground in their contribution to the industry.
Hosted at the Cruise Bar in Circular Quay, the Whirlwind team was welcomed by the ever-friendly Carmen from Pro Print, live music and espresso martinis. Drinks in hand it was time to say hi to existing friends and to network to develop new relationships. Shortly after, the official announcements commenced.
The field was broad consisting of suppliers, printers, movers and shakers it was a night full of support for the print industry and our colleagues who are all dealing with similar pressures in an often difficult industry.
Coming in at number one were both Geoff Selig, executive chairman, IVE Group and Matt Aitken their chief operating officer. “It’s been a huge year for the IVE Group. A lot of initiatives that have all gone well for us and it’s nice to come together with others in the industry in this sort of environment” Selig said .
At number 5, was Whirlwind Managing Director Andrew. Andrew recognized the great group of people he joined on the Power 50 list, and while Whirlwind didn’t perform to their expectations in 2018, he sees a very bright 2019, with the launch of the NSW Digital Hub. This year Whirlwind purchased a Horizon SmartSlitter and won a Gold medal at the National Print Awards for its book One Barangaroo.
Rachel, Whirlwinds General Manager was a new entrant to the Power 50 list. Surprised and equally excited to be nominated, Rachel was placed number 11. An amazing achievement and well deserved recognition of her hard work. During 2018 Rachel consolidated six software packages down to one and incorporated sophisticated automation workflows, and restricted the sales structure to give customers the best service. “I didn’t self-nominate so my nomination meant a lot. I actually arrived thinking I wouldn’t get a mention, to come in number 11 was amazing and it is so rewarding to have the support of not only my team at Whirlwind but the print industry as a whole” the always humble Rachel shared.
